Palácio do Grilo is the milestone birthday BTQ Events produced inside one of Lisbon's frescoed eighteenth-century palaces, for a private client who wanted a landmark evening for 160 guests. The brief asked for a masquerade that belonged to the building it was held in, where the dress code, the staging and the performances all spoke the same language as the painted halls around them.

A masquerade that belonged to the building.
A masquerade can sit on top of any room, or it can grow out of the one it is held in. Palácio do Grilo gave the night its own language before a single element was added, with painted ceilings, gilded mirrors and salons that already carried a sense of theatre. BTQ built the evening to match that register rather than compete with it. Black tie and masks set the tone at the door, a red-carpet stage turned one of the halls into a performance space, and the programme moved from a live show band to aerial adagio performers working beneath the frescoed dome, so the palace stayed the lead character across the whole evening.
